Working for a better tomorrow, today
Sarah Forsyth (Doctorate)

"I think there’s a big movement, particularly within this next generation of doctors that are trying to push some of these stereotypes surrounding women in medicine, particularly in fields such as surgery which has been viewed as a “boys club” in the past. Within the hospital, I have heard stories of female junior doctors wearing scrubs saying “doctor” on them and being told by a patient, “no I’m not after a nurse, I’m waiting for the doctor” – so I’m unsure how I will deal with those kind of stereotypes still engrained in society. However, there are some amazing female clinicians in particular who I’ve had as lecturers that I really admire and have kicked these stereotypes right out of the park. "

"I'm really enjoying medicine so far and get a lot of satisfaction out of the challenges and rewards that comes with it. I haven’t had much clinical exposure as of yet, but am really looking forward to getting out of the lecture theatre and into the operating theatre."
